On the occasion of marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and as part of the global campaign “16 Days of Activism”, I facilitated the making of #Osnažene campaign.
Violence against women is expressed in various forms, but what they have in common is that it is a huge global problem, even more in the pandemic times. UN proclaimed it as a shadow pandemic. In Croatia, data show that one woman is abused every 15 minutes, while the probability that they are actually reduced because most violence remains unregistered. The aim of the workshop was to introduce the short lecture of visual activist campaign for women rights and work together to create messages aimed at raising awareness, reporting and preventing violence against women.
The croatian word “žene” means women and #osnažene is an adjective meaning empowered and referring specifically to female sex. With participants in the workshop in Women’s Club of Center of technical culture Rijeka, we jointly designed two campaigns with desire to express solidarity with women victims of violence and encourage reflection on the relativization of violence using statements from their own lives, or the lives of women close to them.
Campaigns were promoted by SOS Rijeka- center for nonviolence and human rights, Centre of technical culture Rijeka and Creative Cluster Kombinat on their social media before and on November 25, the day of celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
